eFoiling - What are the regulations?
What are the eFoiling regulations in my area?
If you’re thinking of taking your eFoil on a trip with you, or you want to get into the sport of eFoiling it’s best to check what the local regulations are. There may be restrictions or you might need to follow other guidelines, including registering your eFoil to ride it legally.
"I love exploring new places from the water, so whenever I travel I check out the waterway regulations to make sure it’s worth packing my Fliteboard."
David Trewern Flite Founder & CEO
For example Canada restricts the use of eFoils with an open propeller, so a Fliteboard can only be used with Flite Jet propulsion system. Some countries like Australia allow you to use an eFoil, but different states require you to register your eFoil as a water vessel. Failing to register your eFoil can result in fines or worse, so it’s best to double check requirements before you purchase an eFoil, or hit the water.
Around the world you’ll also find age restrictions which prohibit riders under a certain age, this is something to consider if you plan on having an eFoil the whole family will use.
Certain countries may require not just the eFoil to be registered but also the rider, so if you plan to let your friends or family borrow yours we suggest researching local laws.
Finally, while eFoils may be legal in a country or region, certain waterways may prohibit the use of all watercraft or motorised watercraft. It’s always best to not only check a country’s rules but also the exact area you plan to ride in.
Anywhere you plan to eFoil, we always suggest checking the regulations and requirements. It is the responsibility of riders to be aware of and comply with regulations in their specific location. Your nearest Authorised Flite Partner will be able to tell you everything you need to know. If you struggle to find clear rules and regulations, it may be helpful to reach out to local eFoil groups, visit the Facebook Fliteboard Owners Group or other internet forums for established rider’s experiences and advice.
