Support Australia’s First Nations children by purchasing raffle tickets to win a one-off Fliteboard and original painting by Gabriella Possum Nungurrayi with a combined value of AUD $23,395.
Proceeds go directly to two indigenous-led organisations doing amazing work: 75% to Children's Ground and 25% to Bunyarra Culture Collective for the Arakwal of Cavanbah (Byron Bay).
Fliteboard Founder David Trewern recently returned from an eye-opening trip to the heart of Australia, as part of an initiative organised by Igniting Change (a charity which David is a board member of, that focuses on bringing about positive change in communities). “Children’s Ground took our breath away. They are doing incredible work to create a better future for First Nations children.
It was a privilege to feel the magnificence of the world’s oldest living culture, and totally gutted to feel the devastation and trauma endured by Australia’s traditional owners over the past 240 years. Australia needs to do better and as a proudly Australian company, we want to help.”
Children’s Ground is an Indigenous-led organisation, creating a new future filled with promise, hope and empowerment for First Nations children.
Bunyarra is a collective that promotes leadership and confidence amongst Aboriginal youth and the Aboriginal community.
Gabriella Possum Nungurrayi was born in 1967 at Mt. Allan, Gabriella Possum Nungurrayi is the eldest daughter of renowned artist Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri.
She was taught to paint by her father at a very young age. His influences are apparent in her work, yet she has formed a style of her own.
Her paintings depict stories such as Bush Tucker (Exploding Seed and Black Seed from the Mt. Allan area), Women's Ceremonies, Serpent, Goanna and Seven Sisters Dreamings. Gabriella's work is bold and vivid in colour and composition and utilises many different techniques, the "dot" technique in particular.
Gabriella is recognised as a culturally significant artist and her work has been exhibited in the USA and throughout Europe. Her work is in many major collections including the National Gallery of Australia.
The artwork 'Salt Lake Dreaming'
Passed down to her by her father Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri, Gabriella’s Salt Lake dreaming is a story of her country which is dominated by salt lakes, claypan soakages and sandhills. Fed by the nearby Napperby Creek, during periods of heavy rain the lake can grow beyond its usual size and can last as long as six months.
The water is mostly salty and undrinkable however in certain places it does change to fresh water.
The artwork depicts the wind moving across the salt lake, soakages and sandhills. Dancing tracks of women performing ceremony can also be seen throughout the painting.
